Timbre: color mix.

Last week I finished a business card for a friend of mine, Christa Emmerink. She finished her 'Masters of Music' in Utrecht as a harpist.

How do you make a business card for a musician? Is it the instrument they play that defines them or is it more than that? I began to search for the question behind the question: what makes her unique from other musicians and harpists? There was one word that stood out and played an important role in her music, that was the word timbre.

It is defined as follows: Timbre is the characteristic quality of sound produced by a particular instrument or voice; tone color.

In her music Christa makes use of tone color. By just playing one cord on the harp she can literally bring the audience to tears. What I found out was apprently this is not something all musicians can do and that is what makes her unique. This was the starting point for a concept of her business card, there are 4 colors I used with each a different meaning that describes Christa.

> GREEN, young and fresh

> PINK, abloom and cheerful

> PURPLE, modest

> BLUE, bright and pure
